Illiteracy rate reduced to less than 25%
Mr. Gebrezgi Dimam
Asmara, 21 April 2016- The Director General of the Adult Education and Media in the MOE, Mr. Gebrezgi Dimam disclosed that with the relentless post-independence efforts conducted the illiteracy rate has been reduced to less than 25% at national level. He further indicated that in the 70s illiteracy rate was almost 75% and that with the introduction of adult education 500 thousand nationals were able to read and write and that contributed to the reduction of the illiteracy rate.
The backward traditions and ways of thinking and the nomadic way of life have been the bottlenecks and that to observe women reach to high school level through the adult education attests to the progress of the program.
